Wordy Wednesday – My Body

This week’s installment of Wordy Wednesday is brought to you in 2 parts by My Body.

1. I’m still recovering from almost a week of vacation in Florida that involved somewhere around 20+ hours worth of being in the car. Two-and-a-half year olds make car travel…interesting. On top of that, My Body really didn’t like being mushed up in a car for hours upon hours at a time….I have 3 cricks in my neck and shoulders, my upper back feels like someone has it in a vise grip, and if my feet want to just go ahead and fall off, that’s OK – because they have been hurting and aching for weeks now that I’m not taking Meloxicam for my plantar fasciitis anymore.

But one of the highlights of my trip to Florida, that made all the aches & pains worth it, was getting to hang out in real time and in real space with Christel from theperfectd and her lovely daughter and father. Read her blog post linked there – I say “ditto” to all that. She is awesome, and we would most certainly be friends if we had met up in life outside of diabetes and the DOC. And our kids were so stinking cute together, even when they both defied nap-time.

Nom nom...cookies!

Cookies BEFORE lunch?
Why, yes, I believe you should!

2. This song by Young the Giant just fits. (Amazing how you listen to songs and suddenly they have diabetes-related messages to share?) Despite My Body telling me “no” over and over again, I will never quit in this struggle against diabetes. I most certainly want more.

Stop, the train is ridin down to the station
where you lived when we were school kids
Hey, the rails are caught now
And I am falling down fools in a spiral
Round this town of steam

My Body tells me no, but I won’t quit
Cause I want more, cause I want more
My Body tells me no, but I won’t quit
Cause I want more, cause I want more

Stop the train is riding down to the station where I lived
When I was a cool kid
Hey, is it my fault that the fallen embers burn down in a spiral
Round your crown of thieves

My Body tells me no, but I won’t quit
cause I want more, cause I want more
My Body tells me no, but I won’t quit
cause I want more, cause I want more
it rides out of town

Oh, it’s my road, it’s my road, it’s my road
It’s my road, it’s my road, it’s my road

And it’s my war, It’s my war, it’s my war
His eyes are open
His eyes are open

Oh, cause I want more, I want more
Want more
His eyes are open
His eyes are open

(Hey, hey, hey)

My body tells me no but I won’t quit
Cause I want more, cause I want more
My body tells me no but I wont quit
Cause I want more cause I want more
It rides out of town

Skipping Sunday – Learning to Hula Hoop

A quick hula hooping tutorial for today –

Penelope and I had our own hula hooping fun on Saturday at Danceformation with our friend Karen -who is also Type 1- as our instructor. As you may know, I have a hard time getting in enough exercise, but hooping is actually a really good workout I can get while still being able to talk and socialize with friends. Win win! If you live anywhere near Cary, you should join us on Saturday mornings at 9:30am!

So much fun! (and exercise, too!)

I Needed That

I got into a bit of a funk today. I have eaten like crap all week, and not really done any exercise to speak of. Spent too much time in front of the computer working – I mean,  I *have* to work, but that doesn’t make me feel any better about it.

I so desperately need to get out and feel the fresh air and be revitalized. When my daughter and husband get home, we’re going to a local park with a lake, and going to just get outside and BE for a while. I can’t wait.

I need to exercise more, I need to eat better, I need to need to need to….so many things. But for now, I’m just looking forward to seeing my little girl, chasing her around and watching her play.

This picture of her dancing at my friend’s wedding the other week just makes me smile. And encourages me (more than anything else could) to pick myself up from this stupid chair and get out and DO something. I needed that! She dances WAY better than I ever will!

Today is a Gift

Happy Birthday to me! As my present to myself, I will keep today’s post short and sweet and not stress out over using proper words and neat sentences and such.

(As your present to me, if you have the chance, go check out the Diabetes Hope Conference going on today from 12pm-3pm EDT. It’s virtual, it’s free, and it’s got some crazy awesome panelists working various diabetes angles. No geometry knowledge required.)

Today, I just plan to be happy, spend time with my family and some friends, and experience this day in my life. As Merle Shain said in a book I read many years ago, “Today is a gift, that is why it is called the Present.” Be Present
